Easy Days 2025
“Revisiting this work forty years later from my perspective as an older photographer has been a great pleasure. It has been an unexpected surprise to find images on my contact sheets that interest me now but that I failed to print then. Evaluating recently made photographs is so much more difficult because preconceptions of what you hoped to capture cloud your judgment. Images also gain a historical perspective over time that adds to their interest. These pictures describe a long-ago time, and yet in looking at them I become once again the young photographer who took them on a hot summer day, sweat and dust pungent on the breeze; in the distance, I can hear the laughter of children who are now middle-aged.”
Sage Sohier’s Easy Days is the third book in a trilogy of her photographs from the 1980s published by Nazraeli Press. The accompanying exhibition at the Center for Photographic Art (Carmel, CA) was reviewed by Musée Magazine.
Books are available at Photo-eye, Charcoal Book Club, and Setanta Books (UK).
